Our Diamonds shine brighter for you. This is because we fully handcraft all our Diamond based jewelry in-house. This allows us to implement and follow the highest levels of craftsmanship and meticulous detailing without the fear of third party quality concerns. Every Diamond is unique and expresses individual characteristics. Thereby, the quality of a Diamond depends on 4 C’s – Carat, Clarity, Colour & Cut. Read our Diamond Guide about the 4C’s.
The Clarity of a Diamond is determined by the prevalence and frequency of inclusions or blemishes that are visible. These are categorized into 10 levels:
- Flawless or internally flawless is the highest-ranking with no inclusions visible under 10x magnification. They can have minor blemishes confined only to the surface.
- A clarity grade of 1 or 2 (VVS1 or VVS2) has extremely minor inclusions that are difficult to see under 10x magnification. Even for a skilled grader. VS1 or VS2 grading have minor inclusions present.
- SI1 or SI2 have noticeable blemishes that can be spotted under 10x magnification.
- I1, I2 or I3 Diamonds have clear inclusions under 10x magnification and they can sometimes even be spotted with the naked eye.
Carat refers to the weight of the Diamond and is the most distinguishing factor that is prevalent. One Carat weights approximately 200 milligrams. You can also classify the weight of a Diamond in points, where 100 points equate to one Carat. There is a direct correlation between the pricing and Carat of any Diamond. In light of this, a one Carat Diamond would sell at a higher price when compared to two 0.5 Carat Diamonds.
The Colour of a Diamond is graded from D (totally colourless) to Z (heavily tinted), following the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). The ideal and correspondingly most expensive Diamond is completely colourless. Sometimes Diamonds of lower colour appear to be white when seen with the naked eye, but they actually have slight tones of yellow.
A Diamond’s Cut, refers to the proportions, finish, symmetry and polish of the stone. It determines the intensity and brilliance of a Diamond.
The Diamonds that we use at Pukka are always SI2 clarity and they have a minimum quality of H-colour. If you require fancier and more distinguished stones, please contact us for our Bespoke service.
