Many questions arise here, and we want to help you to keep an overview. After all, the wedding rings should accompany you for a lifetime and symbolize your love for each other. In our article, we will explain to you which possibilities you have to make changes to your rings.

When should you buy your wedding rings?Micro Caress Emerald Ring

Handmade wedding rings takes four weeks to handcraft after ordering until they are ready to be picked up. However, we recommend that you allow a little more time, especially because of the logistical restrictions due to corona. We always recommend that you allow six weeks for the completion of your wedding rings. Customized designs, can take longer, however the timeline depends on various factors some of them being:
  • The complexity of the design
  • Availability of the selected materials
  • The seasonal orders. Off season rings are always faster as the backlog of the orders are usually thinner
Keeping the above in mind, we always recommend keeping 6-8 weeks in mind whilst ordering your handcrafted engagement and wedding rings. In our blog post Find the perfect engagement ring! you can learn more on how to choose the perfect ring for your partner.

Can I change the size of a wedding ring?

Over time, it can happen that the engagement ring or wedding ring suddenly no longer fits. Also, the ring measurement may have been taken on a particularly cold day and the ring is too big from the beginning. In these cases it is possible to change the ring size. To change the size of the ring, you should consult a specialist. He can either widen or narrow the ring for you
If you widen the ring, the ring is stretched with the help of a special technique. Since the material is thereby strained and, only 1 to 2 size differences are meaningful, trying to push it further can crack your ring. For larger changes the ring must be cut open. This means that the goldsmith cuts the ring in one place, stretches it and inserts new material. An enlargement of the wedding ring should therefore be avoided if possible. Remember, it is better to order the rings one tick too big than one tick too small. Slight reductions in the ring size can be achieved by compressing the ring. But even here the capacities of the material are quickly exhausted. Nevertheless it is less problematic to reduce a wedding ring. Alternatively, the jeweler can work thin metal inlays into the inside of the ring and thus reduce the inner diameter inconspicuously. Remember, it is always easier to make a ring smaller than making the ring larger, so if you are confused about what size to buy….buy a larger size. The cost of changing the size of the ring is between 15-40€ depending on the jeweler and complexity. Is it possible to change the engraving of a ring and can a ring engraving be removed?

If your wedding is cancelled or postponed, you do not have to worry about the engraved date. The ring engraving can be changed or removed. Especially often the grinding, filing or sanding is used. Afterwards, the removed surface is cleaned and polished, if necessary also provided with a rhodium plating. The ring then looks as good as new and there is only a marginal loss of material. Basically, this method of ablation can be used for any material. However, please note: the narrower the ring and the deeper the engraving, the more difficult the work. That is why we use laser engraving, which has only marginal depth. This can be repeated more often if you want to have a new engraving in the wedding rings afterwards. Can a wedding ring tarnish?

There are numerous ring materials: white gold, yellow gold, rose gold, platinum, palladium, silver, titanium or stainless steel. The surface of rings can become brittle or tarnish after years. For example, matt rings can become smooth and vice versa. Discolorations, e.g. a yellowish shimmer in white gold rings are also among the side effects of everyday life. Precious metals can tarnish slightly over time, but their durability is guaranteed with high-quality materials. Accordingly, we use only 14k gold or higher.
