What does 14k mean for a gold piercing?

The fact that 14k gold is a particularly popular material in the jewelry industry is due to its alloy. But what does it actually mean? Basically, the carat number describes how high the proportion of pure gold in a piece of jewelry is. It is based on a total of 1000 parts. At 14k, 585 parts (58.5%) of this total proportion are pure gold and 415 are other alloys. At 18k, there are 750 parts (75%) pure gold and 250 parts other alloys. By the way, 24 carat gold would be 100% pure gold. However, the more pure gold is used, the softer and therefore more susceptible to scratches and dents the piece of jewelry is. This is why 14k gold is so popular: it is less susceptible and still looks high quality. The insensitive 14 carat real gold is therefore particularly popular for piercings, which usually sit in the ear for a long period of time. At Pukka Berlin, we use 100% recycled gold, which is processed for you by hand in our own manufactory in Bombay. We also use CO2-neutral lab diamonds to ensure that your piercing not only looks beautiful, but is also sustainable and fair.

Which gold tone suits me?

If you are not sure whether yellow, rose or white gold suits you better, you can use your skin tone as an initial guide. People with a warmer skin tone often harmonize better with warm yellow and rose gold tones, while people with a cooler skin tone are advised to wear white gold. Of course, you can decide for yourself which shade you choose. There's nothing wrong with simply trying out both and seeing which suits your look better. If you can't decide, you can also wear the gold tones in combination. You can also decide according to the occasion: While white gold exudes a cool flair, which is perfect for everyday wear when combined with silver jewelry, yellow gold gives a warmer and more festive look - perfect for stylish luxury on special occasions. However, white gold can also look particularly high-end with sparkling diamonds and guarantee an eye-catching party look. Conversely, yellow gold also looks very stylish in everyday life, especially with chunky pieces from our Tembo collection. Unlike natural diamonds, lab diamonds are not created underground over millions of years, but are cultivated in the laboratory over a period of two weeks from a diamond seed. The controlled environment not only ensures a transparent supply chain, but also provides a particularly clear lustre. At Pukka Berlin, Lab Diamonds are also produced in a CO2-neutral way.

Our piercings are particularly skin-friendly as we use high-quality gold without nickel. You can therefore wear our piercings as initial jewelry without hesitation. However, we recommend that you check with your piercer beforehand.
