Gold Jewelry

It is jewelry made of gold alloys, i.e. based on the metal gold. Compared to cheaper alloys such as silver jewelry or other metals, it is of higher quality and more durable and has been used for thousands of years in jewelry making. The sustainable gold jewelry from Pukka Berlin is manufactured exclusively in 14 or 18k versions.

We only manufacture gold jewelry in 14 or 18k gold. These gold alloys are not only of high quality, but are also the most commonly used for jewelry. A higher gold content results in very soft, extremely fragile material. A lower gold content can be a problem in the long term and leads to porosity.

Different to gold, a gold alloy can discolor. This happens due to the proportion of other materials (copper & silver) that get added to the alloy. In this case, cleaning with a commercially available polishing cloth or, in a further step, cleaning with baking powder is often sufficient. White gold jewelry in particular could turn black due to the higher silver content in the alloy. This oxidation is often easily removable using the methods mentioned.

The easiest way to clean gold jewelry is by using a gentle polishing cloth. For pieces with diamonds in particular, we recommend a bath with warm water and non-chemical soap beforehand. After approx. 10 minutes, the clean piece of jewelry should be removed and dabbed dry. Another method for heavier soiling, is to coat the jewelry with baking soda and water beforehand. An ultrasonic basin for deep cleaning is also very recommended. Please note, however, that this does not work with all stones. Pearls, for example, should not be placed in an ultrasonic tank.

Gold jewelry is based on gold, which is a rare material, so the price is correspondingly high. Depending on the amount of material used, prices vary from 3 to 5-digit amounts. Sometimes a sale saves you a good amount of money for a new piece or maybe even your first gold product.
A tip: Always check the current price of gold. Sometimes it is mentioned in the news. This way, you are able to check whether the company in question is adding an unusual high margin to their jewelry.
