Forward Helix Piercing by Pukka Berlin

Special features of the forward helix piercing

Helix piercings are so named because they are pierced on the helix, the cartilage border of the ear. Any randomly placed piercing on this edge of the ear is therefore a helix. A forward helix is placed at the beginning of the helical fold, i.e. close to the head and directly above the tragus. Due to this position, the healing time can take a little longer than with a simple lobe piercing, for example. You should make sure that you do not irritate the fresh piercing too much, especially when showering and sleeping. It can also be a little more difficult to change the jewelry as the clasp is in the cartilage fold and not behind the ear. Did you know? At Pukka Berlin, we use the labret clasp, which means that the piercing counterpart has a small, inconspicuous gold plate at the end, which makes it easy to insert the stud. Are multiple forward helix piercings possible?

Depending on the anatomy of the ear and how wide the helix fold is, you can of course have several forward helix piercings. However, the trend of getting three piercings on top of each other, which dates back a few years, should be approached with caution. Although it is practical to have a combination of two or three piercings pierced directly, this can make the healing process even more difficult and prolonged. Piercing through the ear cartilage causes swelling. If you have several piercings done at the same time in one session, the swollen area will be correspondingly larger and may cause pain. You should therefore seek extensive advice from your piercer beforehand in order to be as well informed as possible about the risks, advantages and disadvantages. Alternatively, you can also use our piercing jewelry in other areas of the ear. How about a tragus piercing or conch piercing, for example?

As a forward helix is closer to the head, it may well hurt a little more than a normal helix. But don't worry, the pain will pass quickly!

Simple small studs or rings are well suited for the forward helix piercing. Or perhaps you would like to try something a little more unusual and test a stud with a small hanger, such as our Gigi and Kate piercing.

The healing time can vary from person to person. Important factors in healing are the right care after the visit to the piercing studio and how many piercings you get in one session. The healing process can therefore take between 6 and 12 months.

If you have several pierced ears and would like to personalize them, there are various options. Perhaps you have a favorite color that you can incorporate, or you can express yourself through special shapes such as subtle flowers or geometric figures.

When a piercing is inserted, a piercing with a longer bar is usually inserted, as the swelling of a fresh piercing must be taken into account. Downsizing means that you change the bar to a shorter one when the swelling has subsided. The bar length is often 8 to 10 mm during insertion and 6 to 7 mm after the healing period.
