Choosing a Wedding Band
The concept of wedding rings is as old as love itself. Around 3000 years ago, the ancient Egyptians gave each other rings made of twigs or reeds to symbolize their love.
To help you find the perfect symbols of love for you, we share our experiences with you in this article. Because in addition to the design and symbolism of the wedding rings, the materials used also play a major role in making them a joy to wear every day and a lifelong symbol of love. Keep scrolling!

You should pay attention to this
The choice of wedding ring can be determined by a variety of factors - we have summarized some of the important factors when buying a wedding ring:
- Price: a diamond-set wedding ring is more expensive. The material costs are also different, which we will discuss below.
- Wear and tear: A diamond-set wedding ring tends to look better with age, as diamonds almost never become dull. A plain ring will scratch over time, but can be professionally refurbished after a few years. Wedding ring refurbishments are available at low cost from a local jeweler. You can find more information about diamond quality in our diamond guide.
- Lifestyle: Does your job or lifestyle require a lot of manual labor? If so, we recommend either a low-set diamond ring or a plain ring. Prongs can be delicate, and heavy wear can cause diamonds to loosen and fall out.

Do you want matching wedding rings for your partner?
It's always nice to have a connecting element to your partner's wedding ring. It certainly doesn't have to be the exact same design. It can also be the material and color used, the motif or even just the engraving. In any case, we recommend matching the width of the wedding ring to your hand (ring size and finger length). The same ring design on a size 47 or 70 finger will look different. We usually recommend that the width of a wedding ring should be changed in proportion to the size of the hand. If you decide on the same shape of wedding ring, we recommend that you choose the color and material that you like best. As you will be wearing the wedding ring every day, choose a material that suits your lifestyle.

The material of the wedding ring
The first step in choosing a wedding ring material is to choose between platinum and gold. There are essentially two options on which to base the decision: Color and budget. Choose a color for your wedding band that matches your shade. Bolder colors like 18k (750) yellow/rose gold often look better if you have a stronger complexion, and lighter colors like 14k (585) yellow/rose gold go beautifully with paler or lighter complexions. However, at the end of the day, it's all about feeling comfortable with the color. We also recommend matching the material of the wedding band to the engagement ring if both rings are worn on the same hand. Traditionally, different cultures and countries have different customs regarding the hand on which the wedding ring is worn. In Germany, India, Norway and Poland, for example, the wedding ring is traditionally worn on the right hand. In Italy, Great Britain, France and most American countries, wedding rings are worn on the left hand. But: none of this is a must today, you decide! If you decide on the color white for the wedding ring, we recommend considering platinum. Platinum is the most valuable material and platinum is stronger than gold. Unlike white gold, it retains its color. White gold turns a little yellow with age. This looks great if you like this effect, but is important to know to avoid surprises. You can find more information about the advantages and disadvantages of wedding ring materials in our material guide.
your wedding ring should please you for a lifetime
Here is a summary of the wedding ring guide. Ask yourself the following questions:
- Is the wedding band comfortable enough for me to wear every day?
- Do my partner and I want matching wedding rings?
- Does the wedding ring match my engagement ring?
- Will I still like the design I have chosen in 10 years' time?
- Does the color match my complexion, hair color, etc.?
- Does the ring match my existing jewelry? Or should it not?
- Does the wedding ring suit my lifestyle/everyday life?
Choose the right ring size
Most people wear their wedding ring all year round. This makes it all the more important to find the right size. Some exceptions where we recommend taking the wedding band off would be sports, e.g. weightlifting with the ring on, or if you work in the medical field. Here we would consider a slightly larger size to be able to take the wedding band on and off. A chain for your wedding ring could also be a good idea for such cases, so that you can always carry your wedding ring with you. Find out more in our size guide.
Check the quality of the wedding ring
Pay attention to the quality of the wedding ring before you buy it. There should always be two marks (usually on the inside of the ring). One for the manufacturer's trademark and a quality mark for the material of the wedding ring, e.g. 585 for 585 gold.
