When does a ring fit well?

Ordering your partner's engagement ring in the right size straight away can save nerves, time and money. After all, if the ring doesn't fit on the big day, your partner won't be able to wear it on the day itself or while it's being resized by the jeweler. That would be a shame, but not the end of the world. Nevertheless, we would like to help you avoid this situation in the first place. All you need is a well-fitting ring from your partner, which you can steal at an opportune moment.

But when does a ring fit well? Below, we'll give you a few tips on what you should look out for:

  • First of all, it is of course important to choose a ring that will be worn on the hand and finger on which the engagement ring will later sit. Normally, this is the ring finger of the left hand, but you can also choose the ring finger of the right hand.
  • If your partner never wears a ring on this hand, but only on the same finger of the other hand, you can also use this ring. However, please note that the fingers of our dominant hand are usually a little thicker. Therefore, round up or down later in the ring size table.
  • If the engagement ring also has a rather thin shank with a central stone, it is advisable to round down a little in the ring size chart, as this type of ring slips more quickly on the finger due to the central weight.
  • Chucky rings, like our Tembo Yin Yang ring are best not used for measuring, as they are often slightly smaller. It's best to use a ring that your partner likes to wear and that is closest in design to the engagement ring.
  • Of course, the same also applies to rings of your own!

Measure ring size with ruler

Simple but effective: For the first method we would like to introduce to you, all you need is the ring and a ruler. Alternatively, a tape measure or folding rule is also suitable.

Simply place the ring on the beginning of the ruler and read off the inside diameter in millimetres.

Now all you have to do is look up the value in the ring size table and read off the corresponding ring size. That's it!

By the way: If your value is between two sizes, this is not a problem. Our international ring size chart also includes millimeter specifications for intermediate sizes. We also offer our rings in intermediate sizes such as 53 or 55.

Determine ring size with template

Better safe than sorry: it's best to measure with a second method to be on the safe side. All you need for this is a printer, a ruler and our guide. Let's go!

Step 1: Print out the ring size template

Download our guide here and make sure that the scaling in your print dialog box is set to 100%. Our tip: To save paper, you can also print only the first page of the ring template.

Step 2: Check the template

To make sure that the template has been printed in the correct size, you can measure one of the circles with the ruler and compare it with the number in mm.

Step 3: Find a match

If everything is correct, you can now place your ring over the various circles until you have a match.

Step 4: Determine ring size

Now look for the corresponding number of millimetres in the international ring size table. This can be found on the last page of the guide. For example, 16.5 mm would be a size 52.

Now you have the right ring size!

Conclusion

Determining the right ring size can seem overwhelming at first. However, with our tips and methods, nothing should go wrong. It's best to measure the ring using both methods to be absolutely sure. If the newly purchased ring still doesn't fit perfectly later on, this is usually not a problem. Either the recipient wears the ring on a different finger or you simply exchange the ring. In addition, jewelers usually offer subsequent resizing of engagement rings.
