General notes

To prevent the ring from ending up too loose and getting lost, or too tight and getting in the way in everyday life, it is important to take precise measurements. Determining the right ring size is a matter of millimetres. So here are a few tips first:

  1. The right finger: Not all ring fingers are the same and not all index fingers are the same. As the fingers on our dominant hand are often a little thicker, you should measure on the exact finger on which the ring will be worn later.
  2. The right time: As our fingers are slightly thinner in the morning, it is best to measure the ring size in the evening, as they only show their "true" thickness during the course of the day.
  3. Summer/winter: Cold can also cause our fingers to shrink. Therefore, it is better to measure when you have been outside in the warmth. When buying a ring, you should also bear in mind that fingers are thinner in winter than in summer!
  4. Note the knuckles: For many people, the knuckles are thicker than the base of the fingers. If this is the case for you or your partner, it is better to order the ring half a size larger.
  5. The type of ring: For chunky rings such as our Tembo Yin Yang ring or the Cuban Chain ring , it is often advisable to order one size larger. Filigree, unbalanced rings, such as an engagement ring with a diamond, on the other hand, should have a tighter fit to prevent the ring from constantly twisting.
  6. Better safe than sorry: For a particularly reliable result, you can repeat the chosen method 3-4 times or additionally measure with another method. It also makes sense to measure your fingers regularly, as they naturally change over time.

When does a ring actually fit well?

Your ring will fit well if it sits comfortably on your finger. In other words, tight enough so that it doesn't slip off your finger on its own and loose enough so that it can be removed with relative ease. The shake test can also provide certainty: If the ring is still on the finger after a quick shake of the hand, it fits well.

Measurement with ruler

The first method is particularly simple. It is particularly suitable if you have a well-fitting ring from yourself or the person you are giving the gift to, but no ring size is engraved on it.

First place the ring on the beginning of the ruler.

Now read off the inner diameter of the ring and select the value from the ring size table that comes closest to the measured value.

If you are between two values or your value is not shown, we have a more detailed table here. It also provides information on international ring sizes.

At Pukka Berlin, we also offer intermediate sizes such as 53 or 55, so you don't have to compromise!

Measurement with the Pukka Guide

If you're not sure about using a ruler, the next method might be for you.

You will need: a well-fitting ring, a printer

Step 1: Download the guide

Simply click here.

Step 2: Print the guide

It is important that the guide is printed in the correct size. Make sure that the scaling in your print dialog box is set to 100%.

Step 3: Double check

To make sure that the guide has been printed in the correct size, you can simply measure one of the circles shown on page 1 with a ruler and see if your value matches the value in the circle.

Step 4: Adjust the ring size

Now place the ring on the circles shown until you have a match. Now find the printed millimeter number in the international ring size chart above and read off your ring size. That's it!

Measure finger circumference with tape

For the next method, you don't need a ring - it's more about measuring the circumference of your finger directly.

You will need: a piece of ribbon or a thin strip of paper, a pen and a ruler.

  • Simply wrap the ribbon or piece of paper around the finger where you want the ring to sit later.
  • The ribbon should be tight but still fit over the knuckle.
  • Now you just need to mark the points where the two ends overlap.
  • Now measure the distance between the two markings in mm.
  • Now simply compare them in the international ring size table above. You have already determined your ring size!

Determine ring size with Ring Sizer for download

For the last method we would like to introduce to you, you will again need our guide, a printer and a pair of scissors. Let's go!

Step 1: Download and print the guide

Download the guide and print it to 100%. To make sure it has been printed at the correct size, you can measure one of the circles on page 1 with a ruler.

Step 2: Cut out the ring sizer

Now cut out the ringsizer and add a small slit at "Cut here". You can use a cutter or the pointed edge of the scissors for this.

Step 3: Create ring sizer

Place the paper sizer around the desired finger with the writing facing outwards and pull the tip through the slit.

Step 4: Read the ring size

If the sizer fits comfortably and can still be pulled over the knuckle, you can read off your ring size. You already have the perfect ring size!

Did you know?

Most women have a ring size between 48 and 56, while the average ring size for men is between 57 and 62.

Have your ring size determined by a jeweler

We hope that our simple methods have helped you to find the right ring size for you or your loved one. Of course, it's not always easy to find out the ring size in secret. Especially with engagement rings, you don't want to ruin the surprise.

Hence our tip:

If your partner never wears a ring on the ring finger of her left or (right hand) so that you can measure it, try the following. Take her to a jewelry store and ask her to try on different ring sizes, as she has similar fingers to your cousin, sister, etc. for whom you want to buy a ring. You already know her ring size!

If you are unsure despite the methods listed and would prefer to have your ring size determined by a jeweler, you are welcome to visit us in one of our stores in Berlin or Munich. We will be happy to help you determine your ring size and advise you on all kinds of questions about jewelry.
