Cleaning diamonds properly - for lasting sparkle
Diamonds are something very special. They lend their wearer subtle elegance and their sparkle can usually be seen for meters. To ensure that these popular gemstones do not lose their brilliance, it is important to treat them correctly and clean them from time to time. We provide you with valuable tips to ensure that the bling bling of your diamonds gives you lasting pleasure.
Why you should clean your diamonds regularly
Diamonds cannot lose their brilliance per se. As the hardest naturally occurring material in the world, they are relatively insensitive and can only suffer noticeable scratches through contact with other diamonds. However, dust and deposits accumulate on their surface over time as a result of daily wear, e.g. from creams and oils. The result: the incident light can reflect less well and the sparkle of your diamonds is dimmed. But don't worry: we'll tell you how you can easily and simply make your diamond jewelry shine again. The most important facts at a glance

Cleaning jewelry with diamonds
You don't have to go to a jeweler to clean diamond jewelry. Special cleaning agents are also not absolutely necessary. All you need is a small bowl, warm water, mild detergent and, if necessary, a soft toothbrush. And best of all: the method is suitable for silver, platinum and gold. Let's go:Step 1: Prepare the soapy water
Mix a few drops of mild washing-up liquid or soap with lukewarm water (not hot!) in a bowl.
Step 2: Leave the jewelry to soak
Now place your jewelry with diamonds in the bowl and leave it to soak for 10-20 minutes.
Step 3: Brush away any dirt
Now you can use the soft brush to polish your jewelry. It is best to brush the lower side of the diamond carefully, as dirt is most likely to accumulate in the setting.
Step 4: Dry and polish
Rinse the diamonds with clear water and dry the piece of jewelry with a lint-free, soft cloth, e.g. an eyeglass cloth. That's it!
It is best to repeat the process every month.
By the way: You don't necessarily have to use special cleaning cloths with alcohol to clean earrings hygienically, as these can damage the diamonds. The cleaning method shown is perfectly adequate.
Storing diamonds correctly
It's best to store them in separate jewelry bags, the original packaging or a jewelry box with different compartments. This way, your bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings won't get in each other's way.
And your jewelry favourites should also be well stowed away when you're out and about. For example, with our Pukka jewelry boxes in three different sizes and designs. So that your diamonds travel in comfort.
